BASS GUITAR CLASSES

BEGINNER

Objective: To establish a solid foundation in rhythm, basic technique, and fretboard familiarity.

  • Learn the anatomy of the bass guitar and correct posture

  • Tune the bass and play basic root notes and chords

  • Practice major and minor scales (1 octave)

  • Develop fingerstyle plucking, hand coordination, and muting techniques

  • Play simple basslines in pop, rock, and funk styles

  • Start reading basic notation and tab

  • Focus on timing and groove with metronome exercises

  • Grades Covered: Initial and Grade 1

INTERMEDIATE

Objective: To expand technical ability, understanding of musical structure, and ability to lock in with rhythm sections.

  • Learn scales and arpeggios in all keys (2 octaves)

  • Master triads across the neck

  • Develop slap and pop techniques, as well as finger independence

  • Explore modes and chord progressions using the Circle of 4ths & 5ths

  • Play walking basslines and groove with drums

  • Improve ear training with interval recognition and melodic playback

  • Expand repertoire with funk, rock, blues, and pop basslines

  • Grades Covered: Grade 2 to Grade 5

ADVANCED

Objective: To master advanced bass techniques, genre versatility, and performance readiness.

  • Study advanced scales, arpeggios, and extended chords

  • Refine slap, pop, tapping, and chordal playing techniques

  • Explore genre-specific techniques for funk, jazz, rock, and more

  • Apply ear training to transcribe basslines and recognize harmonic progressions

  • Focus on improvisation and creative bassline writing

  • Perform complex repertoire and participate in group performances

  • Grades Covered: Grade 6 to Grade 8

ADULT PROGRAMME

Objective: To develop groove, control, and musical comprehension as a bassist in a band or solo setting, with flexible adult-centered instruction.

  • Fingerstyle and plucking technique fundamentals

  • Rhythm practice: playing with metronome and drums
